Garrett Rogers' Wainwright Stampede Buckle.

Garrett Rogers had a stand-out year in 2016, qualifying for his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, winning the Canadian Finals Rodeo with Jake Minor and winning the Mike Cervi Memorial with Cory Petska.

But it was the lessons he learned in 2015 that set him up for the big year in 2016. In 2015, Rogers and Minor headed north of the border to rodeo in Canada in June and picked up the average win at the Wainwright (Alb.) Stampede, with a time of 15.9 seconds on three head, worth $4,199 a man.

“It’s a good looking buckle, and I haven’t won many at ProRodeos,” Rogers said. “I wear it every day. It was two and a short, and we were 6.3 in the first round, 5.3 in the second round and 4.3 on the short-round steer.”

Rogers and Minor have been braving the Canadian run’s mud and rain for the last two years and plan to make the trek again in 2017 with buddy team Riley and Brady Minor.

“This year, the Canadian Finals are going to have equal money,” Rogers said. “So that will be really, really nice and make a big difference.” SWR
