Billy Bob Brown and Logan Medlin roped four steers in 25.3 seconds to win their first College National Finals Rodeo championship, and that win would be Billy Bob’s first of the evening in Casper, Wyo., last June.

Brown would go on to claim the Men’s All-Around Championship that night, a win for which he still wears the buckle.

“Doing more than one event and being successful in both meant a lot,” Brown, a business major, said. “It felt like a lot of hard work paid off.”

Brown didn’t have the first two rounds he’d have liked in the tie-down roping, but he blew through his third calf with just a wrap and a hooey to win the third go-round with the fastest run of the rodeo at 7.7 seconds.

Despite buying his PRCA card and signings with some major sponsors, Brown chose to stay at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, for another year and likely will stay to finish his eligibility in 2014-2015, too.

“I promised my parents when I started I would finish,” Brown said. “I probably will go back again next year because of everything my team and my coach have done for me.”
